March 6, April 3: First Friday
Enjoy visual arts, musical presentations, sample local foods, get acquainted with local performing artists and more at this monthly event sponsored by the Downtown Spokane Partnership. On the first Friday of each month, participating galleries, museums, boutiques and more host a city-wide open house with refreshments and entertainment. First Friday is free and open to the public. Commemorating the 40th anniversary of the May 18, 1980 Mount St. Helens eruption, which remains the most destructive in United States history and one of the most universal memories in the Pacific Northwest. Currently open: Pompeii: The Immortal City
This exhibition will plunge you into the heart of the drama and the ruins of the ancient cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, lost for almost 1500 years after being buried by a catastrophic volcanic eruption in 79 AD. March 7: Spokane Symphony Pops 5: Eileen Ivers
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in fine Irish style with fiddle virtuoso Eileen Ivers. She’s a nine-time All-Ireland Fiddle Champion, star of Riverdance, founding member of Cherish the Ladies, and has been called “the Jimi Hendrix of the violin” by The New York Times. The daughter of Irish immigrants, Ivers grew up in the Bronx, and became one of the most distinguished and innovative performers of the Irish fiddle in the world today. Fox Theatre. 1001 W. March 8: Spokane Youth Symphony: 70 Years of Virtuosity
The 2019-2020 season of the Spokane Youth Symphony celebrates seven decades that SYS has provided exemplary orchestral education for the youth of the Inland Northwest. This concert will feature the winners of the Spokane Youth Symphony’s 2020 Concert Competition. Each concert includes performances by all four orchestras of the Spokane Youth Symphony and includes the following ensembles: Spokane Youth Strings, Spokane Youth Sinfonietta, Spokane Youth Philharmonic, and the Spokane Youth Symphony Orchestra. March 19: Joe Bonamassa

March 21-22: Spokane Symphony Movies and Music 3: Star Wars: A New Hope in Concert
Star Wars: A New Hope in Concert brings the force to Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox. Watch the first-ever Star Wars film with John Williams’ Academy Award-winning score played live by the Spokane Symphony. This is Star Wars as you’ve never seen (or heard) it before. March 28-29: Spokane Symphony Masterworks 8: Russian Passions
Music from three Russian masters: Stravinsky, Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky. Stravinsky blends Tchaikovsky’s beautiful melodies with his own intense rhythms in Divertimento from The Fairy’s Kiss, a tribute to Tchaikovsky, his childhood idol. Rachmaninoff wrote Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, a set of variations on a theme by the 18th century virtuoso violinist to showcase his virtuosity as a pianist. It includes the breathtaking music heard in movies, Somewhere in Time and Groundhog Day. Tchaikovsky described his Sixth Symphony, nicknamed Pathétique — from the Russian word for ‘passionate’ — as “the best thing I ever composed or shall compose.” Fox Theatre. 1001 W. March 30: The Glenn Miller Orchestra
The world famous Glenn Miller Orchestra brings timeless classics like In the Mood, Moonlight Serenade, Chattanooga Choo Choo, Pennsylvania 6-5000, String of Pearls and Tuxedo Junction back to the stage. Even 80 years after founding his famous orchestra Glenn Miller’s music is alive and well. Over 18 musicians and singers bring the unforgettable Glenn Miller sound and perform those songs that everyone remembers… This is a show not to miss for jazz and swing fans alike or the incurable romantics who want to step back in time. March 31-April 1: Chamber Soiree on the Stage: Spring
Experience the Chamber Soirée Series at one of the most intimate musical settings in Spokane — onstage at The Fox. You will be seated at a table on the stage, surrounded by phenomenal sound. Small ensembles of symphony musicians will perform chamber works from baroque to contemporary. April 3: Chamber Soiree at Rockwood: Spring
The Spokane Symphony is excited to announce an additional Chamber Soirée concert at the Rockwood South Hill Events Center. April 7: An Evening with Amy Grant

April 16: Nat Geo Live: Social by Nature
What’s a human? We are, at our core, social mammals. We build relationships, communicate, reproduce, establish territories, and adapt to shrinking resources. In these ways, we’re no different than other social mammals. Chimpanzees, wolves, and gorillas are among the most charismatic of the mammals we know. We identify with them as species, groups, and even as named individuals. They’re also under threat. Join biologist-turned-photographer Ronan Donovan as he talks about his work in documenting these animals and what we, as fellow social mammals, can learn from them. March 6-8: Fast & Furious
Fast & Furious is Stage Left’s seventh annual staged reading of super-short plays. This fast-paced, fun event will feature new comedies and dramas written by local and national playwrights and is sure to chase away the winter blahs. Through March 22: Cabaret
In a Berlin nightclub, as the 1920’s draw to a close, a garish Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience and assures them they will forget all their troubles at the Cabaret. With the Emcee’s bawdy songs as wry commentary, Cabaret explores the dark, heady, and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich. Cliff, a young American writer newly arrived in Berlin, is immediately taken by English singer Sally Bowles. Meanwhile, Fräulein Schneider, proprietor of Cliff and Sally’s boarding house, tentatively begins a romance with Herr Schultz, a mild-mannered fruit seller who happens to be Jewish. Throughout the course of literary history, the contributions of women were far too often derided, subjugated, or erased. Forced to hide behind male pseudonyms and under the threat of violence, many indomitable artists made work in the face of oppression. March 27-April 19: The Humans
Erik Blake has brought his wife and his mother for Thanksgiving at the new home of his daughter and her boyfriend. His mother is suffering from Alzheimer’s, and his other daughter, Aimee, has recently been the victim of a nasty breakup. The parents are disappointed that their daughters have left home to struggle in New York City, and worried that they are abandoning their values. The Humans tells the story of the quintessential family reunion: a group of people who love each other but still wrestle with basic human fears: old age,abandonment, poverty, and death. Babies will be introduced to the rhythm and beauty of language through our 20-minute storytime, which includes nursery rhymes, songs, and stories. After stories, babies will continue to learn during 30 minutes of play with age-appropriate toys and activities.
